Welcome to the website of the Kalahari Research Centre and the Kalahari Meerkat Project
The Kalahari Research Centre (KRC), located in Kuruman River Reserve in Northern South Africa, serves as the field site of several long-term research projects on mammal and bird species. Operating since 1993, the KRC has developed into a substantial research station that has accommodation for fifty scientists and assistants providing unique opportunities for research, education and filming. The Kalahari Meerkat Project (KMP), the oldest and largest of the projects operating at the KRC, is a longterm research project focusing on meerkats (Suricata suricatta), contributing to our understanding of the evolution of cooperative behaviour.
